Letter 84 Is This Utah?

Hey Everyone!

This week was pretty much normal! You know one thing I noticed is that in this area there isn’t really that much crazy stuff happening which is funny because we are right by Pomona. Now that would be a fun area to work in but La Verne is super nice and we have had no problems with our bikes getting stolen so far which is great. People are super nice to us here and every time we go out to lunch someone pays for our food. We only go out to lunch because other people have given us gift cards but we can never spend them because everyone is paying for our food. I seriously feel like I’m in Utah it’s so weird.

Anyway, yesterday we had a wonderful regional conference broadcast for church which was really nice. Elder Christofferson and Elder Kearon gave wonderful talks. The Chengs weren’t able to make it unfortunately, but hopefully next week. We picked up a couple new investigators that seem to have a lot of potential though and we are really excited to teach them! One of them is a boy named Markus and he is really cool. He was a referral from some member friends and we taught him at their house.

The only problem is we can’t meet with him for another three weeks so that’s too bad. It’s tough to meet with people here, Everyone is so busy. That’s pretty much it for this week though! The members in this ward are super awesome and so we have the opportunity to have a lot more spiritual lessons and teach the restoration in its fullness which is really nice. I love it here so much and am so grateful for my mission experiences thus far and can’t wait to continue making more!

Have a great week everyone!

Letter 83 Forty Day Sugar Fast

Hey Everyone!

This week was pretty much an ordinary week! We had the Chengs come to church again which made me super happy because we hadn’t seen them in a while. We are trying set up an appointment still but they are just
so busy! We also talked to a lot of new people this week so that was good and we received a member referral that we are excited to teach for the first time this Friday!

Overall everything is going great so far. We had interviews with President this week which was nice and
also began our new mission challenge. 40 day sugar fast. We can’t have desserts, candy, or soda. It’s kinda rough but we are pushing through it. I’m good as long as we can still have Little Caesar’s and In-N-Out. Overall that’s pretty much it for this week. Sorry no pictures again! I hope you all have a great week!

Letter 82 Exchanges

Hey Everyone!

It’s been a pretty normal week here in California! Elder Boulette and I have been working to find new people to teach as well as help the ones we are teaching. The Chengs missed church, but Ariana and her boyfriend came which was super cool! We are glad they were able to come.

We also had the opportunity to go on exchanges this week. I went to Walnut Creek area with Elder Jensen and he is from St. George too so that was a fun exchange. It kinda reminded me of Glendale so we fit right in when we knocked on people’s doors saying “Hi, we are Elder Jensen and we are from St. George, nice to meet you!” Well that was pretty much the only thing that happened this week that was different.

Other than that we have just been knocking on more doors and biking a lot! I love it so much here! We did get to watch the funeral for President Monson and I am super excited to see who will be in the new Presidency for the church. I know that President Monson is a prophet of God and I know that the apostles were chosen by the lord to represent him and I am excited to see the church organization work and move forward. Have a great week everyone!

Elder Jensen
P.S. The first three pictures below were sent to us by Elder Jensen's former Young Men's President, Lance Douglas. He works in California and has a home right in Elder Jensen's area! He saw some missionaries on bikes and chased after them thinking it had to be Elder Jensen! Well, it was Elder Jensen's companion, but he was on exchanges with another Elder! (First picture). Brother Douglas was so disappointed! Luckily he was able to see Elder Jensen the next day at church where they had an awesome visit! He called us and told us all about it and sent us these pictures!

These next three pictures were sent to us from a member who had the Elders over for dinner! I can tell that this is an awesome ward!

Letter 81 Mission Conference

Hey everybody!

This week was super awesome! We found a lot of new investigators, but nobody came to church unfortunately. We thought we were gonna have a bunch of people come but nobody made it. Next week for sure though. We are still working with the Cheng family and we actually found a new family to teach this week which is pretty cool. This ward is awesome and we’ve gotten some great referrals from them!

Another cool event from this week was the mission conference we had on Saturday. Elder Dallin H. Oaks came and spoke to our mission and it was awesome! He is such a smart man and with the recent death of the prophet we were surprised he was still able to come. His life is full of experiences that you wouldn’t expect an apostle to have, but as we all know everyone has trying experiences in their lives.

I felt very edified from the meeting and truly feel that he is an apostle of the lord Jesus Christ. He is very bold and willing to speak the truth of God to anyone who asks. It was wonderful to shake his hand and hear him speak. I know that there are prophets and apostles on the earth today and they are special witnesses of Jesus Christ. I know that they are imperfect men, but they are humble and constantly trying to learn. I am so grateful for the opportunities we have to learn from their words and most especially their examples. I hope you all have a great week!

Letter 80 New Year's

Hey Everyone!

I’m sorry I don’t have a ton of time today because we had a zone activity that went kinda long but it was super fun. Just know that I am enjoying my time here in heritage and am excited with how strong the ward is here. The members are so willing to share the gospel and serve people around them.

At the start of this new year I hope you all set some goals to accomplish more in your life. I know that goal setting and plan making can truly help us become better people, especially as we work as hard as we can to achieve those goals. I love you all so much and hope that you have a wonderful new year!
